Thriving Away: Overcoming Homesickness and Building Resilience

Homesickness is an experience many of us will encounter at some point in our lives. As someone who has moved over 20 times in my life (half of that was as a military kid) and lived on three continents, I’ve been there and I get it.

Whether you’re leaving home for the first time, moving for a new job, or relocating to another country, the feeling of missing what’s familiar can be tough to handle. It’s a complex mix of emotions—longing, sadness, and anxiety—all tied to the people, places, and routines that provide comfort and a sense of belonging. While these feelings can be difficult to navigate, understanding homesickness is the key to overcoming it.

I created this course-in-a-workbook to help you take back your agency and feel empowered to move through homesickness.

In this course, you’ll explore what homesickness is and why it happens, so you can see it as a normal part of life rather than something to simply "get over." Instead of viewing homesickness as just a problem, you’ll discover how it can help you grow emotionally. With the help of positive psychology, you’ll learn how this experience can build your resilience, deepen your emotional intelligence, and even bring you closer to yourself.

As you progress through the course, you’ll find practical tips and strategies to not only cope with homesickness but also to feel more at home in your new surroundings. From establishing daily routines that make you feel grounded to making new friends, each part of the course is designed to help you adjust smoothly. By the end, you’ll have a better understanding of how to handle homesickness and appreciate the ways it can help you grow and feel more settled, wherever you are.
